From Databases to Knowledge-bases
نویسنده
چکیده
In the FGCS project and its Follow-on project, we have designed and developed a nested relational database management system, Kappa, a deductive objectoriented database (DOOD) language (or a knowledge representation language), QUIXOT E, and a heterogeneous distributed cooperative problem solving system, Helios, for knowledge information processing applications. In this paper, from the viewpoint of database and knowledge-base management systems, I overview their objectives and features, and summarize their contributions. Especially. I focus mainly on their language aspects rather than systems. Further, by re ecting their experiences, I discuss some directions of future database from an application point of view.

Introducing Cooperation and Actions in Amalgamated Knowledge Bases
The theory of Amalgamated Knowledge' Bases [7] represents a formal logical foundation for heterogeneous databases. In an Amalgamated Knowledge Base, data sources are modeled by generalized annotated logic. Moreover, an Amalgamated Knowledge Base is equipped with a supervisor acting as a mediator for amalgamating knowledge from the local databases. Even if the framework is quite appealing, it do...

Background and aims: One of the most applicable methods in the accident investigation process is utilizing the previously occurred accidents. Usually these data are collected in the databases. The customary databases have some limitations like inability to understand the relations among data. In the current study, it has been considered to provide a sound resource for accident investigation, b...
متن کاملApplications Of Paraconsistency In Data And Knowledge Bases
The study of paraconsistent logic as a branch of mathematics and logic has been pioneered by Newton da Costa. With the growing advent of distributed and often inconsistent databases over the last ten years, there has been growing interest in paraconsistency amongst researchers in databases and knowledge bases. In this paper, we provide a brief survey of work in paraconsistent databases and know...

The integration of concepts from logic and deduction into databases and knowledge bases has created the eld of deductive databases. Logic programming provides a powerful declarative language for accessing and maintaining knowledge in databases. Techniques from relational databases and automated deduction are useful for achieving e cient retrieval and reasoning in large knowledge bases. Thus, de...
متن کاملEpistemic First-order Queries over Description Logic Knowledge Bases
Querying Description Logic knowledge bases has received great attention in the last years. The need of coping with incomplete information is the distinguishing feature with respect to querying databases. Due to this feature, we have to deal with two conflicting needs: on the one hand, we would like to query the knowledge base with sophisticated mechanisms provided by full first-order logic as i...
متن کاملDeveloping genomic knowledge bases and databases to support clinical management: current perspectives
Personalized medicine, the ability to tailor diagnostic and treatment decisions for individual patients, is seen as the evolution of modern medicine. We characterize here the informatics resources available today or envisioned in the near future that can support clinical interpretation of genomic test results. We assume a clinical sequencing scenario (germline whole-exome sequencing) in which a...
